| DEFECTED KIDNEY SINCE BIRTH GOT A NEW LEASE OF LIFE

Patient Amarjeet Singh, R/o Badal was admitted with pain & fever. On investigations his kidney was found in pelvis rather than in normal position (Ectopic Kidney). It was due to a defect since birth. Further the kidney was having a large stone & pus in it. According to Dr. Vikas Gupta this defect is very uncommon & occurs in 1:3000. Kidney was lying very low in the Pelvis. On the posterior side it was covered by hip bone & anteriorly it was covered by Intestines.
Conventionaly this operation requires a long cut in the abdomen.
Dr. Vikas Gupta along with Dr. B.S. Sandhu & Dr. Gurpreet performed the operation with the help of endoscopes. They did the Laparoscopy & separated the Intestine from the kidney & saved the injury to Intestines which was lying in the path of the scope. Then they removed the stone with the help of endoscopes only. It took about 3hrs. to complete the procedure.
According to Dr. B.S. Sekhon Director Mediciti, very few cases have been reported in Literature for this operation. This requires high level of technical expertise. Now the people of Ludhiana need not to go to Delhi & Bombay for Advanced Laparoscopic procedures.
